Need a top dentist to do teeth whitening for my bridal party

I’m having a lavish wedding in October and I’m looking for a top dentist to do Zoom teeth whitening for the 5 ladies in my bridal party. I hope to make sort of a surprise teeth whitening party of it and get everyone’s teeth whitened in the same day. I’m paying for it all because I have gorgeous friends and I want them to have absolutely white teeth in every picture. I don’t want anyone looking at my wedding pictures and thinking that someone’s smile is anything less than gorgeous. I’m just wondering if this is something a top dentist would be willing to do even if we don’t normally go to that dentist. How long will it take person? And is there anything you can suggest? Thanks. Jenn

Jenn – Your gift idea is generous. You might be able to find a top dentist to do the teeth whitening for your bridal party, but your questions will need to be answered directly by the dentist. We have some suggestions and a few things to consider:

Teeth whitening isn’t for everyone

Depending on the health of a person’s teeth and gums, bleaching their teeth is not a good idea. Some people have stains in their teeth that Zoom whitening will only make more noticeable. Additionally, a top dentist knows cosmetic dentistry well, and another type of whitening might work better for an individual. And it might take longer than in-office treatments with Zoom.

Does your entire bridal party want teeth whitening?

We understand your concern for picture-perfect smiles for your wedding, but it’s best to take your bridal party into consideration. A surprise will not work for teeth whitening. The top dentist who completes Zoom whitening will have to examine each person’s teeth first to determine if teeth whitening is recommended. Your bridal party will also need to content to that and follow-up care.

A recent dental cleaning will be required

Dentists require a recent dental cleaning before Zoom whitening is used. Clean teeth and gums yield better results.

You need a top dentist’s agreement

You will need to first find several top dentists. We recommend accredited cosmetic dentists. Check each dentist’s patient reviews on Google, Yelp, and Facebook. You might also find verified patient reviews on a dentist’s website. Call several cosmetic dental offices and make your request to find out if any dentists are willing to do it.

Consider the dentist’s schedule and the time it will take

Most dentists complete in-office whitening in three to four 15-minute sessions. Even if you find a top dentist who is willing to do it all in one day, it will require several hours for you and your bridal party to be in the dentist’s office. Special attention must be given to each person. For safety and sanitary reasons, don’t expect all of your teeth to be whitened in the same room at the same time.

What to expect after in-office whitening is complete

Follow-up visits are needed to ensure whitening meets the patient’s desired results. At-home treatment might also be recommended by the dentist. If anyone in your bridal party wants to keep her smile bright, periodic at-home touch-ups are required.

If you find a top dentist to honor your request, ask questions to ensure you and your bridal party know everything that’s involved and what the dentist requires from each of you.

Your gift is generous. There is a lot involved to satisfy your request. Be flexible and willing to listen to the wishes of each person in your bridal party and the recommendations of your cosmetic dentist.

Looking for best dentist to tell me if I need crowns or veneers

My teeth are a mess and they are way beyond just whitening them to make them look better. No 2 teeth are the same shape. They look like they all came from a different mouth LOL. I really need help. I don’t know which way to go – with veneers or crowns. I don’t want a dentist telling me I need crowns when I need veneers, but also I don’t want the reverse. I am not sure who to trust and since I am making such a large investment on my smile it better look good. So what kind of things do I need to know to find the best dentist to tell me if I need crows or veneers? Thanks Ismaila

Ismaila – If you want to find the best dentist in your area, you may be able ask friends, family members, or co-workers for recommendations for a cosmetic dentist who does beautiful work.

Don’t just take their word for it, though, do a little homework first. Check out each dentist’s website, review his or her credentials, and look for a smile gallery on the site so you can see before-and-after pictures of the dentist’s work. After you’ve narrowed your selection to two or three cosmetic dentists, schedule a consultation with each of them. The consultation will give you time to meet the dentist, ask questions, and decide if he or she is the right provider for your case.

In addition to any personal references you get, mynewsmile.com is a great resource to find some of the best cosmetic dentists in the country. The site is sponsored by a retired cosmetic dentist who carefully screens dentists for their training and credentials before they are listed on mynewsmile.com

If you can, be willing to travel a little to find a cosmetic dentist who can give you a beautiful smile.

I’ve been to 3 dentists and none of them can get my crowns right!

How long have porcelain crowns been around? I need crowns on both front center teeth and I have been to 3 different dentists and none of them can get the crowns right. The crowns are too big, too white, too thick, or too wide, or there is some other problem with them. It started with my dentist who just sounded like the whole thing would be a breeze. He has done crowns on front teeth before, although I don’t know how they looked on the patient. We went through several mock-ups and temps, but he just couldn’t get it right. So after I kept complaining, he referred me to a colleague who is a “cosmetic dentist” and she only slightly did a better job. So I went round and round with her and still got pasty white buck teeth crowns which I refused to let her cement on. After that I decided to find a dentist on my own and asked for recommendations from people in the office where I work. I got several recommendations and picked a dentist. We are in the mockup phase and the teeth look bad—again. So I’m done. But I can’t really be done can I, because I still need new crowns?! Is it nearly impossible to get crowns on front teeth that look good? I am totally frustrated. Any suggestions you have or a recommendation of a dentist would be great. Thanks. Tensie

Tensie – We understand your frustration and concern. When you smile, your front teeth are what others’ eyes focus on first. They need to look natural.

Placing beautiful, natural-looking crowns on front teeth is a challenge. It requires the skill of an artistic cosmetic dentist. The artistic dentist’s concerns are quality, looks, symmetry, and harmony. This means that the dental crowns you receive will match the characteristics of your surrounding teeth, fit well, look great, and look like they are your natural teeth. Only an artist can accomplish all of that.

It’s a good idea to ask for recommendations of a cosmetic dentist from friends and family members, but you also have to do a little homework. Is the dentist accredited? If not, has he or she received any recognition or awards for cosmetic dentistry? Does the dentist continue to participate in ongoing training? Does the dentist have a physical catalog or online gallery of before-and-after pictures for you to review?

Have consultations with two or three cosmetic dentists before you choose your next provider. Take the time to ask questions—and ask to see photos—before you make a final decision. With a little more time and careful research, you will find a dentist to give you beautiful crowns on your front teeth.

Porcelain crowns or veneers?

How do you know if porcelain crowns or porcelain veneers will be recommended to restore your teeth? The answer depends on the condition of your teeth, the goals for your smile, your individual case, and the cosmetic dentist you choose.

  • Condition of your teeth – Are your teeth healthy, free from decay, and not worn down? Porcelain veneers cover only the front of your teeth and are bonded to healthy teeth. Teeth that are cracked, decayed, or badly down need to be protected with porcelain crowns.
  • Goals for your smile – Do you want a smile makeover, or to change the shape, size, alignment, or color of your teeth? These are things that porcelain veneers can accomplish for healthy teeth. They cover only the front of your teeth and require minimal tooth preparation. To accomplish these goals with porcelain crowns requires significant tooth reduction, because a crown covers the entire tooth from the gumline to the biting surface.
  • Your cosmetic dentist – After examining and taking diagnostic studies of your teeth, your cosmetic dentist may decide that a particular treatment will work best to restore your smile. The final decision is yours, though.
  • Your case – Every patient case is different. Porcelain veneers may work well for you, but porcelain crowns may be the preferred treatment for someone else. Budget may be a concern for some patients, and porcelain crowns are less expensive than porcelain veneers.

Be certain to find an experienced cosmetic dentist who takes the time to evaluate your case and anticipate the results you will get—in both function and beauty—depending on which treatment is used. You may consider getting more than one opinion. Be prepared to ask questions, take notes, and compare your options before deciding on a provider for your treatment.

Find an accredited cosmetic dentist. He or she has a proven history of creating beautiful smiles, even for difficult cases.
