Community Involvement
Operation Gratitude
Dr. Hurley and her staff are personally involved in a number of community service projects. During the Halloween season the office participates in Operation Gratitude that collects candy and beanie babies for the American troops. She also collects letters written by the scouts, students in high school and any one else that wants to write a letter. These letters mean so much to the soldiers when they are away from home. She has been so successful in involving the community that she has collected over three thousand pounds of candy and over 5000 beanie babies and 600 letters. Local Girl Scout troops and the Key Club from the high school helped with the project.
Operation Smile
Operation Smile is an organization that provides free surgery for cleft palate and cleft lip victims for as little as $240 per surgery “restore a life –change a smile”. As a certified professional photographer Dr. Hurley first heard about Operation Smile through the Professional Photographers of America that have this as their official charity fundraiser.
Give Back a Smile
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry sponsors a program Give Back a Smile that assists domestic abuse victims restore their smiles and their lives. Dr. Hurley has participated for many years trying to get the word out to local shelters and has written newspaper articles to inform the public of the program.
Donated Dental Services
Donated Dental Services is a program that assists mentally and physically handicapped receive needed dentistry. For over a decade, Dr. Hurley and her staff have helped someone receive much needed dentistry.
The Interfaith Food Pantry
The Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County is a much-needed source for food in these economic times. A personal family experience with this organization showed the need for donations of articles that cannot be obtained with food stamps. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and diapers are just a few examples of items that are not available through food stamps. Dr. Hurley offers a program that if you bring in a bag of supplies you receive a credit of $25 off your dental bill. She serves as a collection point for dropping off the little bars of soap and bottles that you receive while traveling, make up samples, diapers and cleaning supplies.
Get a Physical
Get a Physical is a program that encourages people to be healthy. Dr. Hurley offers $25 off a patient’s dental bill if they bring in proof that they have had any preventative tests or a physical in the past year.
