Chatham Pediatric Dentist
If you’re looking for a pediatric dentist for your child, Dr. Allyson Hurley is a general dentist who loves treating children—and children are very comfortable in our office. They turn on an iPod, listen to music, and are carefree as Dr. Hurley gives them the dental care they need.
What Is a Pediatric Dentist?
A pediatric dentist is a licensed specialist who has received two years of post-graduate training in dentistry specific to the needs of children. Dr. Hurley is a general dentist whose dentistry-school training enables her to care for your child’s basic dental needs and help him or her maintain good oral health. Although it’s unlikely that your child will need to see a specialist, if one is needed, Dr. Hurley will refer you.
What to Expect from Dr. Hurley for Pediatric Dental Care
Dr. Hurley is warm and friendly, and children really like her. Our entire staff is welcoming, and we make children’s visits fun. We provide fun and pleasant dental experiences, so when your child becomes an adult, he or she will look forward to dental visits.
During treatment, your child can listen to music on an iPod and tune out the sounds and sites of dental treatment. We personalize your child’s dental care, based on his or her needs. If your child is anxious or nervous about dental appointments, we are patient and will never insist that your child receives treatment.
Preparing Your Child for a Dental Visit
Start by practicing good oral hygiene at home. Let your child watch you as you floss and brush your teeth. Explain that flossing and brushing keeps your teeth clean and healthy. Tell your child about your dental appointments, and if possible, take him or her with you to your dental appointment. Your child will be able to see how the dentist examines and cleans your teeth to help keep them healthy and pretty. He or she will likely want to imitate you and look forward to a dental appointment.
Helping Your Child Maintain Good Oral Health
Even between dental appointments, we are interested in your child’s oral health. We will give you tips on how to encourage your child to maintain good oral hygiene. When your child starts flossing and brushing his or her own teeth, our progress checks will ensure that he or she is doing it well. Dental sealants are often needed to protect primary molar teeth—and sometimes premolars. We will protect your teeth to ensure that permanent teeth develop properly.
Since we provide dental services for both adults and children, we offer you the convenience of having one dentist for the entire family whom you can trust.
